We met in college...
in a class called Survey of Jazz. Melvin, whom I knew nothing of at the time, was not in class the first day. (So surprising lol..) I was late to the second day of class due to a location change. When I finally found the classroom, I opened the door and immediately scanned the room for a seat. I immediately noticed Melvin, along with the empty seat beside him. After taking my seat next to him, I noticed he looked familiar, but I had never actually met him before. He was wearing a polo shirt, jeans, and an old pair of Sperry's. I thought to myself, he is weird. However, that did not stop me from getting to know him. I am sure he did not know at that point that we would be- but I did, for certain..
Melvin proposed on April 23, 2016. The day of, he told me that we would be going to Ladew Gardens, a beautiful topiary garden that we enjoy visiting. This is where he originally planned to propose, but it started to rain very hard that morning. He changed plans and we went to breakfast to pass the time. After breakfast, we did our normal Saturday routine which consisted of shopping and running several errands. All the while, Melvin was in contact with the photographer to figure out when and where we could meet next so he could propose. The rain eventually stopped and it turned out to be a beautiful day. He asked me if I wanted to check out another garden that we had never been to before since we couldn’t go to Ladew Gardens earlier in the day. I obliged. Once we got there, we got out of the car and he told me that there was a photographer there that he had been in contact with that he wanted me to meet for future photos we would take. We walked around for a long while. I was oblivious that Melvin was trying to pick the perfect spot to propose since he had never been to this location before. He called me over to him and asked me how I liked the photographer. I wasn’t sure why he asked this, so I said I liked him. He asked again, and I started to get upset that he was asking me my opinion of the photographer while he was standing right behind us. He quickly pulled the ring out of his pocket and got down on one knee while the photographer captured the moment. I was so surprised and relieved at the same time!
